Different Types of Meditation

Meditation is a great way to get to know yourself better. People
who meditate tap into their higher consciousness and create balance
between themselves and their environment. The benefits of
meditation have been seen by the millions of people who engage in
it. Higher self-confidence, a positive outlook, and good physical
health are all benefits resulting from having daily meditation
sessions. There are many ways to meditate, but you need to find the
method that will work for you. This can be a trial and error process.

Different Ways to Meditate

We will go into several different ways to meditate here. Remember,
if one method does not work for you, then go ahead and try
meditating in a different fashion.

-       Sit Down-This is the most common form of meditation. Find a
comfortable spot (upon a cushion) and cross your legs. The room you
sit in should be well lighted. Do not sit in a dark room. Your
brain needs light in order to be stimulated. You can close your
eyes, or leave them open, or open them halfway. If you plan on
closing your eyes, just be sure the room is extra bright, so that
some light penetrates through.

-       Sit and Stand-You may feel more comfortable using a combination
of sitting and standing. This will help loosen your body in case
you are getting physically uncomfortable. Meditate for twenty
minutes sitting down, then stand up for a few minutes before
returning to your sitting position for another session of the same
length.

-       Gaze into the Mirror-If you are looking for different ways to
meditate, try sitting in front of a mirror. Focus your attention to
the back wall, and not on your face. This will help your mind
unwind. Meditate for twenty minutes, stand up, and then sit back
down again for another twenty minutes.

-       Meditation Chairs-These special chairs help you keep your body
posture straight. These chairs are perfect for those who have
trouble staying still in the sitting position.
